Sequencing games without initial order

چکیده
In this note we study uncertainty sequencing situations, i.e., 1-machine sequencing situations in which no initial order is specified. We associate cooperative games with these sequencing situations, study their core, and provide links with the classic sequencing games introduced by Curiel et al. (1989). Moreover, we propose and characterize two simple cost allocation rules for uncertainty sequencing situations with equal processing times. JEL classification: C71, C78.

Relaxed sequencing games have a nonempty core∗
We study sequencing situations with a fixed initial order and linear cost functions. In these sequencing situations cost savings can be obtained by rearranging jobs. When the jobs are owned by different players, next to the issue of finding an optimal order, the division of these cost savings forms an additional issue. Cooperative game theory studies this issue by taking into account that group...
متن کاملSequencing games with repeated players
Two classes of one machine sequencing situations are considered in which each job corresponds to exactly one player but a player may have more than one job to be processed, so called RP(repeated player) sequencing situations. In max-RP sequencing situations it is assumed that each player’s cost function is linear with respect to the maximum completion time of his jobs, whereas in min-RP sequenc...
متن کاملNeighbour Games and the Leximax Solution
Neighbour games arise from certain matching or sequencing situations in which only some specific pairs of players can obtain a positive gain. As a consequence, the class of neighbour games is the intersection of the class of assignment games (Shapley and Shubik (1972)) and the class of component additive games (Curiel et al. (1994)). We first present some elementary features of neighbour games....
متن کاملWhen Order Affects Performance: Institutional Sequencing, Cultural Sway, and Behavioral Path Dependence
How does the order that laws and other institutions are introduced affect their performance, and under what conditions will sequencing matter? To gain a foothold on these questions, we construct a formal model of institutional sequencing that includes cultural sway in the form of behavioral spillovers. We derive two broad categories of results: First, we characterize the relationships between t...
متن کاملDifferential Games with Incomplete Information on a Continuum of Initial Positions and without Isaacs Condition
This article deals with a two-player zero-sum differential game with infinitely many initial positions and without Isaacs condition. The structure of information is asymmetric: The first player has a private information on the initial position while the second player knows only a probability distribution on the initial position. In the present model, we face two difficulties: First, the incompl...
